Power-over-Ethernet (or 'PoE'). This technology enables your Response Point phones to be powered over the computer network instead of having to have a separate power-cord/wall-wart for each phone. The advantage of this is that you have less wires, and more flexibility in phone placement (there are plenty of places you might want to put a phone where there isn't a power outlet available). To make this work you'll need to buy either a "PoE Power Injector" for each phone, or you could instead buy a "PoE-capable Network Switch" that can supply power for all your phones from a single unit. ** NOTE: Currently, PoE is available only on the Syspine phones. **
Uninterruptible Power Supply (or 'UPS'). A UPS uses a built-in battery to keep your Phone System running for a while when street power fails. Although we don't carry UPS's, you'll want to consider buying one from your local computer shop. The larger the capacity of the UPS, the longer your Phone System will stay running. In order for your desktop phones to keep running when power fails, you'll want to plug them into either a small desktop-sized UPS under each desk or you can use PoE (see above) and power the PoE-capable Network Switch from the UPS. We recommend the second solution, but as we mentioned earlier, bear in mind that the Syspine system is the only Response Point system currently available that supports PoE.
Your Shopping List Some things that you might need are: ·A Network Switch. Make sure you have enough ports for all the phones, computers, printers and so-on on your network. Don't forget that you'll need a port for the Response Point base, and if you're buying a D-Link system you'll need a port for each Analog Gateway that you add. If you're buying a Syspine Response Point system we recommend that you look at the PoE-capable Network Switches. ·A UPS. Although we don't carry UPS's, you'll want to consider buying one from your local computer shop. ·Cables. Make sure you have sufficient cables to plug in everything. We carry a large assortment of cables in various lengths and colors. Response Point systems and phones are shipped with cables, but they are typically 4 or 5 feet long at most. If you're using structured wiring make sure you have enough cross-connect cables. ·Support. Did we mention that we provide free phone-based installation support?
